Breath Test Operator School

Fondren Forensics Inc. offers a 40-hour State Approved Breath Test Operator School. This class is open to law enforcement employees across the state of Texas. In addition to receiving state certification as a breath test operator, students who successfully complete this course of instruction may be eligible to apply for TCLEOSE credit.

Classes are held at various locations across the state. If you would like to host this class at your facility, please contact us for specific information on how you can become a host agency. Tuition costs listed below are for classes held in the DFW area. If you are outside of the DFW area and wish to host a school, please call or email us for a quote. You may register online or you can print and mail the registration form. It is the responsibility of the student to obtain the required approval letter from their Technical Supervisor. You may contact us for information on how to obtain this letter.

All classes are conducted Monday through Thursday from 8am – 6pm and Friday 8am-noon. Tuition varies. Please read closely to determine the cost for the school you are interested in. Tuition is $180.00 for agencies under the supervision of Area 47 (Fondren Forensics). Other agencies pay tuition based on the location of the school. Schools in and around the DFW area are $225.00, schools held outside the DFW area are $350.00 and schools held in South Texas are $500.00. This includes all course materials, study guides, souvenir shirt and operator manual. Classes are offered between November and July each year. Schedules for the coming year are generally posted by the end of August and registration begins September 1st. Additional classes may be offered throughout the year, so it is important to stay current with our schedule and offerings. If a school is filled, you will be placed on a waiting list. Should cancellations occur, we will contact those on the waiting list, often within 2-5 days of the beginning of the scheduled class. Since class size is limited, please respect others who may be waiting, and if you need to cancel your reservation, please do so as soon as possible. You may transfer your registration to another student as long as that student has Technical Supervisor approval.

If for any reason enrollment is less than our minimum requirement, then the class will not be held and you will automatically be placed in the next available class.

We are committed to providing an enhanced learning environment, with knowledgeable and interesting instructors, exciting video and presentations, interactive class formats, and opportunities for networking with other agencies. Fondren Forensics Inc. provides instructors with many different backgrounds, including chemists, police officers, private business owners, government employees, attorneys, investigators and technical supervisors. The information students receive in this class follows the guidelines set forth by the Texas Breath Alcohol Testing Regulations, in accordance with operating a school of initial instruction.

Effective Courtroom Demeanor

This is our most requested class by police officers and detention officers. This class is offered periodically throughout the year, based on interest. The course is designed to help the beginning or experienced witness. It is geared toward law enforcement personnel; however, analysts, chemists, toxicologists and other professionals will benefit greatly from this course. The course is not designed to teach you HOW to testify. Your testimony is yours alone. However, the way you prepare for your testimony and the way you present testimony can and does affect the perception others have of you.

This course utilizes proven methods to help you:

appear more comfortable on the witness stand

understand terminology related to courtroom activities and discussions

relate your information in a clear and concise manner

treat others in the court with respect

You will also learn how the court system operates and how your case goes from arrest to trial to verdict.

Guest speakers are brought in from other areas to help you with interpreting medical and forensic reports you might handle as part of the arrest. Representatives from surrounding District Attorney's Offices will be available for clarification and further discussion.

One of the greatest points of this class is the hands on approach. There are break out sessions to get you involved and networking opportunities to learn how others in your field handle similar situations. You won't be looking at a power point presentation all day! You will be motivated and encouraged, and will leave the class equipped with the tools you need to be an effective witness at your next trial. This class is being held periodically at locations around the DFW metroplex.

We also offer a mini-version of this class which can be taught at your facility. The mini-version can be tailored to target specific areas of concern. It is ideal for new employees who have never testified; however, it also serves as an excellent refresher course for your experienced officers who testify regularly. This is a 3 hour session that is process-oriented and can be offered several times throughout the year as part of your ongoing training program.

All students who successfully pass these classes will receive a certificate of completion and may be eligible for TCLEOSE credit.

We accept credit cards, checks and purchase orders

Please call for more details. We are happy to answer any questions you may have.
